This is it, right here. The VERY LAST SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE you will even need. We had so much fun laughing at ourselves creating our first baking blog! (Insert crazy girls giggling here)

This book was my mom’s. Published in 1963, yep it’s an oldie. The best part of this book for me is there is a little of mom’s life in here. Where she scribbled down her instructions, a smudge of the shortening she used, worn pages well loved. Even in this old book my mom’s memory lives on. One recipe that was a standby for her was Ethel’s sugar cookies and they still rock, even by today’s standards. Here is what you will need:

Ethel’s Sugar Cookies~ Betty Crocker’s cookie cookbook 1963
3/4 c butter
1 cup sugar. Mix until fluffy.

2 eggs
1tsp. vanilla. Mix some more…
add 2&1/2 cups flour
1tsp. baking soda
1tsp salt….it should look like this….

Chill at least one hour.
Get your cookie cutters and rolling pin ready, they are going to do some work here!!! This is also a good time to whip up that frosting. Because you know when those cookies pop out of the oven you will want one. Immediately. With frosting. Duh.

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Roll dough about 1/4-1/2″ thick on slightly floured board. Cut with cookie cutters, bake 6-8 minutes. Watch closely not to brown them. You just want them a light tan color .
Frost with cream cheese frosting….
1/4 cup butter
4 oz. cream cheese
1 tsp vanilla
2&1/2 cups powdered sugar
Mix together until creamy. Now taste it. Does it need more vanilla? Taste it again and again and again. (This is a very important part! Besides it’s a good excuse to have more!!!) Mmmm. It’s a little slice of heaven, right? My mama could bake cookies like no other. She taught me well.
Now go fill those pastry bags, grab your kids and get creative! Don’t forget to add some love to ’em, just like my mom did.
