Let go and Let God

I’m finding “let go and let God” a common theme in my life right now.  A mantra I keep needing to repeat over and over again when something isn’t going my way.   I don’t see myself as a controlling person (it’s not what I would consider one of my strongholds, believe me, I have others.).  But, when looking back at situations I’m going through it seems to be what I keep going back to.  FullSizeRender

I feel this intense responsibly for how things workout and it’s really not my job.  When I’m faced with a conflict in a relationship, parenting, finances ect. I find myself having this big discussion with God on different ways to fix the problem.  Lord maybe if you do this than this will happen and it will all work out.  I’ve got some good ideas!  I do come up with some elaborate scenarios in my head.   When I realize what I’m doing, I laugh at myself and can just picture the big guy shaking his head at me and saying Ang, I got this I don’t need you to come up with ideas for me.  What I need you to do is just listen to me and be obedient in what I’m impressing upon your heart to do and I got the rest.

Then I got to thinking and I asked myself am I doing that?  Well… I just drew a blank and had no idea.  In the last six month I have started keeping a prayer journal so I went back through it and started looking at what some of my prayers were and jotted down some things I thought the holy spirit was asking me to do. I wanted something tangible to look at and the first three things on my list were:

  • Let go and let God
  • Trust Him
  • Be patient

All of those things are really hard for me and I’m not perfect by any means, but I can say that those top three thing I have been dilegently trying to do.  I keep trying and he keeps reminding me. Lol, sometimes I feel like a little kid that needs to be reminded over and over again util it sticks.  I’m so thankful for His patience, Amen!

Realizing that I’m not responsible for how things are worked out but what we need to do is the what God asks us to do. This is a really heavy weight lifted off my shoulders and one that I’m not equipped to carry, but He is!

So again I tell myself to LET GO AND LET GOD.

So I can take a deep breath relax and enjoy the little things in life like tissue paper flowers.  I’m getting ready for a little party at my house and thought it would be fun to add some color and spring to the inside of my house.  Ok…Ok… it’s my birthday this month and I wanted an excuse to tape big tissue paper flowers to my wall.

They’re are a ton of tutorials on Pinterest on how to make these so I’ll spare you all the details.

A couple tips I found out while making them though was:

  • I used 5 pieces of tissue paper for the body of the flower
  • 2 pieces of tissue for the center of the flower
  • I secured it with curling ribbon (it doesn’t need to be tight)
  • Fluff  then tape to your wall with painter tape

P.S. just in case you need another reminder like I do –  “Let go and Let God.”

Chalk Paint oh how I Love you!

I have a confession, this DIYer has never painted with chalk paint before!!!  For those non DIYers out there don’t be confused with chalk board paint.  This is different it’s not something you write on with chalk.  It has a beautiful velvety, matt finish to it and yes I’m in LOVE!  Continue reading

Follow Friday

Its my turn this week to pick someone for our Follow Friday and I choose Lizmarieblog.com.  I love her style and everything she does I want to do.  Which is what leads me to this post.  She recently did a post about naming her house and it inspired me to want to do the same thing.

Here is the picture she posted about her sign she had made for her house, isn’t it lovely? I love her living room and how light and bright it is. You should also read about why she named her house here.  I love how sweet she is and how it just bubbles out in her writing.

After reading her blog that evening when my family was all sitting around the dinning room table after dinner.  I mentioned that I wanted to name our house and I needed some ideas.  I told them the name had to do with something about the house.  Some ideas I gave them were we live in the pacific north-west, its green all around us, our house is green ect.  When they were done rolling their eyes at me and telling me I was crazy they actually started coming up with some good ideas.  My Hubby ended up with the winner, Cottonwood Creek.  Which is perfect because our backyard is filled with cottonwood trees and we have a creek that runs along the border of our property.

I took a chalk board sign we already had and put our new name on it.  We built our house in 2007 so that had to be on my sign also.

It’s funny how the little thing like naming my house gets me so excited.  Heidi came over and saw my sign and she gooshed all over it!  The two of us are two peas in a pod!  I’m so happy I have her to get so excited over the little things with me.  Please tell me we are not the only ones who do this?  I think, I must feel this way because I live in a house full of boys.

Happy Follow Friday,

P.S. I just got paper work in the mail about my house and it is actually built in 2006, lol!  Good thing I used a chalk marker.  I’ll get around to changing it one of these days :).

A pop of fun for my book Shelves

I gave my little book shelf a face lift by adding craft paper with polka dots of course!

This is what it looked like before.

I found two different papers I liked in my craft closet so I hung both to get an idea of what looked best.  I thought I would like the white polka dots because the shelf is kind of dark and I thought it would lighten it up a bit.  After hanging them side by side I decided the black polka dots actually brightened it up a bit.

I didn’t want to do anything permanent because I’m constantly wanting to change things around in my house. The paper I found at Target on clearance around Christmas time. These are the items I used for the project:

After taking all these pictures I decided to add some more books to the bottom shelf.

One of my kiddos already broke my 5 sad, sad!!!  That’s why I don’t spend a lot of money on my things! Thankfully my 5 was about $3.00  I must run back to Ben Franklin to get another one.  I might try glueing it first though!

Tips:

*When styling a book shelf I usually check out Pinterest first.  Even if you don’t have the same accessories you can get ideas on lay out and how they put things together.

* I usually start with my books and spread them around.

* Then I add layer with my accessories

* Take your time and leave it one way for a while to see if you like it.

It’s defiantly not perfect, but I loved how it turned out. My seams didn’t line up the way I wanted them to and the paper didn’t lay perfect, but its good enough for me. It gave my shelves the pop of fun I was looking for.

How do you style your shelves? Do you have any helpful hints I can use?

Bunny Makeover

I’ve had this cute bunny for years! She has seen better days and has a couple broken spots, but I still bring her out each Easter and put her on my front porch.  I wanted to give her a fresh new look so I took some good ol’ spray paint to her.  I used heirloom white satin finish, gave her one light coat and called it good.
