Picture Day

Heidi and I decided it was time to update our profile picture from our ski goggles to something hip and cute. Except I really don’t feel hip and cute lol. I’m a mom with teenagers who constantly remind me that I’m so un-cool! Because that’s what teenagers do!  No, seriously I love to craft and decorate my house and I feel pretty confident in it. When it comes to my wardrobe I kind of stress out, I think I do an ok job but it doesn’t come easy to me.

So we headed out for a shopping trip and had so much fun. We kept cracking jokes about how cute and trendy we were going to look. We found a few things that were cute but we weren’t to exited about it. Then we made it to target and I saw a picture of a model with the cutest outfit all pulled together. Ta-Da thats exactly what I needed, lol. We had so much fun pulling it all together from there. Here is what we we decided on.

This is my outfit.

This is all from Target

Heather Boren Photography http://heatherboren.com out to my moms house so we could get our pictures taken on the same front porch as Heidi’s great grandma Mammi.  I know Heather is going to work her magic and we’re  going to have some beautiful pictures to show you.

Thanks to my mom for letting us come out to her house and being so supportive of us!  I love you!

Can’t wait to share with you how they turn out.

Say what ? Butter coffee?

About a year and a half ago my husband started talking all about butter coffee or BulletProof coffee as it’s also known.  I turned my nose up and smirked, “Ew, that sounds gross! Butter in your coffee?” He smiled and sat very content with his butter coffee.  Making it every morning he would rave about how good it was. Until finally one day when he wasn’t looking I took a sip.  Mmmm…what was this creamy goodness that I had been snubbing?  It was like no coffee I’ve ever had!  So now I’m addicted.  Yes I know, it sounds crazy and super fattening.  But the whole idea is essentially , you are waking your body up to say ” Oh ya, we are using fat as a fuel source.”  Or for a more detailed version visit Dave Asprey at  bulletproofexec.com.  But her is my version of butter coffee .

Here are your ingredients….

Grassfed ghee (or Kerrygold butter) , organic coffee, collagen peptides and MCT oil or coconut oil.

Why all this stuff you ask?  Grassfed butter is what makes this so yummy, duh. It’s butter.  Of it does.  Organic coffee , obiously is the “cleanest” choice.  Collagen , it’s the building block of nails, skin, hair, bones and joints.  Ya like gelatin, be grossed out if you must.  But my recovery time post workout almost seems improved because my joints aren’t achy anymore.  The MCT or coconut oil promotes high energy, fat loss and brain function.  Uh huh, you heard me brain function

Step one: BREW YOUR COFFEE!  Add about 12 ounces to a blender or I just use a glass quart jar.

Then add one Tbsp each, grassfed butter, MCT or coconut oil (I love the coconut flavor) and Collagen, if you choose, sometimes I add a dash of cinnamon too.  Then I blend it with an immersion blender.  Whip it and whip it good!!!!  Prepare your taste buds for something new, they are gonna freak!

You can also make a mocha by adding one Tbsp. Unsweetened cocoa powder, one tsp or more pure maple syrup or honey.  This is soooo good!

Then find your favorite mug….

So what do you think?  Are you going to give it a try?  Don’t be scared and waste time without it like I did. Go on, make your day something big and start it off with a butter coffee!  Let me know what ya think. Would ya?

Laughing Is My Favorite

I always love a good laugh!  I mean who doesn’t?  You know in the movie Elf when he says, “Smiling is my favorite.”?  Well,  laughing is my favorite!  Laughing feels good, it warms the soul.  It makes things feel better even if they aren’t. Some of my roughest times in my life I got through because of laughter.  I was a teen when my mom died, but laughter was always part of our house so laughing is a comfort to me.  One day, maybe a year after my mom had died, a friend was driving me home from school.  My grief was heavy that day and I started crying.  It all seemed too much to bear.  So there I was crying while my friend was driving, poor thing she probably had no idea what to do.  She was just a kid herself and these were adult like problems we were dealing with.  After a few minutes of my crying my friend did something so unexpected and so funny.  She broke out in song (yes, car singing again).  She belted out “I said a bird, bird ,bird, bird is the word.”  There I was in my veil of heavy greif…laughing and crying at the same time. It felt so good. It was just what I needed, a good laugh.  It filled me up when I was feeling empty. It restored my soul, it brought me, back to me.  It’s like God’s grace… All who are weary… Come and find rest.  I found rest that day rest from my greif and it felt so good.   If you would have told me that day in the car as i was crying with the heaviest of hearts, “Let me sing you a song and ease your pain, ” I would have laughed out loud.  Some people feel that way about God.  How can something or someone you cant see ease a pain so big?  But he did.  When my bestie wasn’t there to sing to me, he was there.  No, calling on God didn’t bring my mom back or take away the years of grief to come, far from it.  But he eased my pain when I needed it most.  He found me in the darkest of moments and shed new light I had not seen before.  He still does today.

My mom wasn’t with us for long but she gave me and my brother a great gift.  She showed us what it was like to walk with Christ. To lean on him always.  To go to him for your needs and trust that HE was going to care for you.  Let him be your comforter, he knows what we need.  There is a song I love that says it all so well….

In Christ alone, my hope is found, he is my light my strength, my song.  My comforter my all and all here in the love of Christ I stand.

Do you ever feel like you need to be restored?  Bring the YOU back to YOU? there is hope. Let God lift your veil and give you comfort. Just ask him. But still let that bestie sing to you  because God gave you those friends to sing, laugh and grow old with….

I got a text message today from the man of my dreams.  No silly, not George Clooney, I’m talking about the man I married.  He’s on a trip for work, in Seoul, Korea.  He didn’t just text me words of sweet nothings, he sent me pictures of his adventures.  It’s technology grand?  His first pic was from breakfast….I have no idea what he ate, but look at this beautiful cup of Joe.

Isn’t it pretty?  If I were drinking it I would do what I could to retain the art in its original form.  Unless it was super tasty , then I would slurp and gulp in my classy, I MUST HAVE CAFFEINE NOW, totally unrefined , way.   Then the man of my dreams would just give me an eye roll.

He then sent a picture of the view from his hotel .  It’s of Seoul Tower, (wow original name), interesting structure!

Kinda cool, don’t you think?  How in a matter of seconds we can send a picture thousands if miles away!  Wow what a crazy world we live in. He decided it was a good idea to hike up there and halfway up he found this

Yes, if your hike isn’t giving you enough of a workout you can stop here and do something with those funky machines.  But if you keep on trucking up that hill….

You get a beautiful view.

Or or you can find this at the top….Seoul Tower.  It’s sort of like the space needle.  A place to view the city and dine.

Maybe one one day my hubby will take me up that hike and we can see it together.  But for now, I’m happy with pics from far away places that  most people don’t get to see in a lifetime.

When the Lord Calls a Loved One Home

Grief is so weird, don’t you think? Do you ever feel like you don’t know what to do?  Seriously, I always feel this way.  The Lord called My Uncle Larry home a couple weeks ago.  Even though you know it’s coming, you just can’t prepare yourself for it.  I’m so so sad and will miss him so much.  I know he’s in a better place and lean on that knowledge to help me get through my grief. I admire the way my friends seem to be able to deal with it.  They  know just what to do and say.  Whatever it is, from making meals, offering to help with a certain need or just being there for that person. I wish I could be more like that. I feel like I never know what to do.  I find myself staying home to grieve alone. What I want to do so badly is to go visit them and be there for them.  But I’m so scared of bothering them, or being in the way, or not having the right words to say.  So I started thinking what I’d want If I were faced with the same situation.  I thought I’d want to be surrounded by my loved ones.

So I wanted to craft something that was meaningful to me, that I think my Aunt would like.  I’m going to take it over to the house just to let them know how much I love them.

I found a saying and printed it off.  It says: “Because someone we love is in heaven… there’s a little bit of heaven in our home.”  I then cut and pasted it on chip board.

On pinterest, I found the cutest tutorial on these coffee filter angel wings. You can find the link here: thoughtsfromalice.com

I tied the sign with ribbon onto the wings.

In loving memory of Uncle Larry, I love you! Your Warm smile and big hugs will be missed!

Those we love don’t go away,

They walk beside us everyday…

Unseen, unheard, but alway near,

Still loved, still missed and very dear.   Author Unknown
